Susan Waters Bio
In
addition
to her
responsibilities
at InternetBar.org,
Dr. Waters
is Principal
of Sextant
Consulting,
a firm
that offers
strategic
planning
and focus
to associations
and other
organizations
as well
as consulting
related
to governance,
organizational
alignment
and assessment,
board-staff
roles and
responsibilities
and meeting
facilitation.
Dr.
Waters was Chief Executive
Officer of the California
Society of Certified Public
Accountants (2000 to 2004);
Executive Director of the
Massachusetts Bar Association
(1993 to 2000); Executive
Director of the San Francisco
Medical Society (1980 to
1993); and Executive Director
of the Prince George’s
County (Maryland) Medical
Society (1974 to 1980).
She
served as President of the
San Francisco Bay Area Society
of Association Executives
(1991-1992) and was the first
woman to serve as President
of the American Association
of Medical Society Executives
(1988-1989). She presently
serves on the San Francisco
President’s
Advisory Committee to Dr.
C. D. Mote, Jr., President
of the University of Maryland.
Dr.
Waters has been an American
Society of Association Executives
(ASAE) Fellow since 1989
and has served as Chair of
its Public Policy Committee
and its Amicus Curiae Committee.
She served on ASAE’s
Board of Directors (1992
to 1998), serving as an officer
from 1996 to 1998. She is
currently a member of the
Key Professional Associations
Committee and is a member
of the Center for Association
Leadership Board of Directors
as well as its Research Committee.
She
was designated one of Ten
Outstanding Young San Franciscans
by the Jaycees and was named
Association Executive of
the Year by the Northern
California Society of Association
Executives in 1993 and received
their Lifetime Achievement
Award in 2002.
Dr.
Waters received her B.A.
(University of Maryland,
1973); her MBA. in Organizational
Development (University of
San Francisco, 1992); and
her Executive Doctor of Management
(Weatherhead School of Management
of Case Western Reserve University,
2005).
