Finalists & Prizes

Ten teams will be selected at the end of Round One to bring their issues to online mediation. Each team will be formed at the beginning of the contest with no more than four contestants per team. Among the ten finalist teams and forty individual finalists, prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • Most Outstanding Team--Team Grand Prize ($1,000 award for each team member + IBO Fellowship)
  • Honorable Mention Team--Second Prizes (2) ($250 award for each team member + IBO Fellowship+)
  • Most Outstanding Written Argument--Writing Grand Prize ($1,000 award + Published in ILR Journal)
  • Honorable Mention Written Argument--Second Prizes (2) ($250 award + Published in ILR Journal++)
  • Most Outstanding Oral Argument--Argument Grand Prize ($1,000 award + ODR Certification**)
  • Honorable Mention Oral Argument--Second Prizes (2) ($250 award + ODR Certification)
  • Outstanding Individual--Individual Grand Prize ($1,000 award + IBO Fellowship + Trip*

*All-Expense paid trip to the Ecocity World Summit 2008, April 22-26, in San Francisco, California as Internet Bar's official ambassador. For more information about the Summit please see http://www.ecocityworldsummit.org/index.htm.

**ODR Certification is an advanced skills certification program in online dispute resolution developed by the Internet Bar Institute. Practicing attorneys may receive MCLE credit for completing this education. Standard price is $2,500. Prize winner receives the Certification program at no charge.

+Internet Bar Fellows participate actively in projects during a semester of their law school career. We will work with your school or academic advisor to attempt to arrange for academic credit for you. For practicing lawyers, we will work with your employer to arrange for credit for MCLE and/or required pro-bono hours.

++ILR is the Internet Law Review published quarterly by Internet Bar.

Additional conditions relating to the choice of the finalists as well as the details of the travel package will be noted by IBO in writing before the beginning of the second round.

Note: If a Grand Prize winner cannot claim the prize--cannot attend the conference--he or she will remain as a finalist cash prize winner and the runner-up will become the Grand Prize winner.
